Scenes from Ireland (Part III)

changing our currency from euros to pounds in northern ireland. i was struck by the prominence of the queen on this bill, or is it a note?


an incredibly old bar in galway. 1649. unbelievable.

a "human statue" in galway. this guy was part of the galway arts festival going on in july. various types of artists and art works are scattered throughout this city during this noted festival.



one of the oldest crosses in europe -from around 900. this is located in the cemetary that houses the remains of william butler yeats.


a restaurant in cork. love the name.



we visited this center cork as part of anne's research.





this is a silver toilet in an incredibly smoky bathroom. ireland no longer allows smoking in restaurants and bars. what you see here is fake smoke or fog that was pumping through this gay dance club in cork. we thought it was weird but everyone else seemed to enjoy the mood it created.

perhaps the most famed bar and music venue in galway. there is also a version of this bar in boston, but it is known by it's english translation, the black rose.






our little micra rental car. we had some scary moments in this tiny car but it served us well.

Scenes from Ireland (Part I)
