Dorm LIfe
For the past three weeks I have been living as a college student. I've been sharing a quad with two other women, taking my laundry home on weekends for my mother to do, and inhabiting the space of a small, 3 story dorm with 22 other people. We gather around downstairs in the sitting area, or out on one of the porches in the evenings, eat our meals together in the cafeteria, and share one television. Oh, and we also attend seminars together most of the day during the week (9-11:30, 1-3:30). It's like having all of your college classes with your roomates.
But, it's not as awful as it sounds. Overall, the people are cool. There are a lot of southerners, which means they are funny and like to have a good time. And the non-southerners have followed suit. Everyone is a conversationalist - sharp and passionate about their work. I'ts like academic summer camp.
So, our time here at Ferrum is drawing to a close. We take off Sunday for another part of Virginia, where we will spend our time in hotels (together, of course),driving and touring various sites. I'll get to see one of the largest superfund sites (woo-hoo) and stay two days in what I hear is a breathtakingly beautiful park.
Decompressing, and gearing up for the final week of the institute.
